Fernando Torres has thrown his weight behind Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League bids – predicting ‘big times ahead’ at Anfield. The Atletico Madrid striker and Kop icon sent a special message of support to his former club on Twitter when they wished him a happy birthday.
Thank you Reds !!! All the best for the rest of the season Ill be cheering for you!!! Big times ahead !!! https://t.co/bgoNeJcKrW— Fernando Torres (@Torres) March 20, 2019In response to birthday wishes from Liverpool’s official Twitter account, the Spaniard revealed he will be a Reds fan for the rest of the season as the club bid to end 29 years without top-flight glory. He tweeted: “Thank you Reds!!! All the best for the rest of the season I’ll be cheering for you!!! Big times ahead!!!”Torres, who turned 35, never won the Premier League with Liverpool but came agonisingly close in 2009. With a star-studded line-up featuring the likes of Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, the Reds finished runners-up to Manchester United by four points. The striker netted 65 Premier League goals for Liverpool – 81 in total – during a three-and-a-half-year spell at the club before leaving to join bitter rivals Chelsea, where he was still unable to taste top-flight success.Nonetheless, he is still highly regarded on Merseyside, and Torres looks back on his time at the club with fondness.
